5-year-old Devika was playing with her red balloon in the house when suddenly she tripped and fell into a bucket full of hot water. She screamed at the top of her voice and kept calling her mother for help. But by the time her mother reached, the little girl suffered from 60% burns and was in a critical condition.
“I ran towards my daughter when I heard her scream and cry. I thought she might have fallen and hurt herself but I found her in a condition that sent me into shock. My feet turned cold and I couldn’t think straight. My child was stuck in a bucket full of hot water. She was in so much pain that her cries turned into whimpering and she was slowly losing consciousness. I immediately took her out but her body...her body was burnt badly.” -Sunita
4 hospitals and 16 hours later
With the help of his brother who was luckily nearby at that time, Sunita rushed the little girl to the nearest hospital but it turned out to be in vain. None of the hospitals nearby were properly equipped to treat the girl’s condition. Although the first aid was done, it was only in the fourth hospital after 16 hours of the incident that she was admitted.“Every minute that passed felt like hell, my daughter was moving closer to death. One after the other hospital sent us away saying they can’t treat her. The constant fear of losing her and the inability to do anything for her killed me.” -Sunita

My husband is unemployed and I work as a labourer to run the house. It is getting impossible to afford the medicines let alone the treatment.
