For His Health Condition He Was Sacked From His Job. Now He Has To Look After His Family While Struggling To Survive

For Biswanath Sutradhar, from Malda, West Bengal, he is very much aware that whatever his situation is, his family cannot do without him, and even for a single second he cannot pause taking care of them. And that is the only reason that after being diagnosed with deadly Kidney Failure, he was still working hard for almost two years as a Medical Representative for his company; and thus, striving each day to make ends meet while also saving each penny for his ongoing treatment.

“I knew that how my family is dependent on me. My wife also cannot work as she has to take care of my four-year old daughter and my old mother. Hence when the doctor told me that I was suffering from deadly Kidney Failure, I still continued to work. But unfortunately, even after multiple requests my company didn’t sympathise with my circumstance, and took the harsh decision to fire me in January 2024.” – Biswanath.

The sudden vomiting spree that changed everything

It was around two years back in August 2022, when Biswanath realised that suddenly, for no logical reason he was not able to digest anything. Not even water. Sensing something weirdly wrong he went to his family physician. Understanding his symptoms, the physician suggested blood test. And what was revealed through blood test report was something neither Biswanath nor his family was ever prepared.

“I could not believe my eyes when the doctor pointed out that my creatinine level had shot upto 14.5 mg/dl as against the normal range of 0.7 mg/dl – 1.3 mg/dl. The doctor asked me to see a Nephrologist immediately”. - Biswanath

What followed was an ordeal that drained him throughout

Without wasting time Biswanath went to Chennai immediately after consulting one of his relatives. After conducting few tests, the doctors at Chennai confirmed that both his kidneys have been completely damaged and he was immediately put on dialysis. And since then, Biswanath goes through dialysis every two days in a week.

“The doctors told, henceforth, I would be completely dependent on dialysis and cannot miss a single session come whatever may. I get my dialysis done at Malda. But, owing to the absence of any specialist at Malda, every time I have to rush to Chennai, even for minor complications.” – Biswanath

His condition further deteriorated last September, and now he needs immediate Kidney Transplant

In the course of almost two years, since Biswanath was diagnosed with Kidney Failure till today, innumerable times he has been shuttling between Malda hospital and Chennai hospital, and owing to this he has already spent more than 10 lakhs on his treatment. In addition to that, he is also suffering from frequent fevers due to infection, which has resulted in immediate requirement for Kidney Transplantation.

“The Kidney Transplant will cost 12.86 lakhs which includes room charges, pre transplant dialysis charges, transplant charges, and post-transplant care charges. To support my treatment, I had already sold my house and moved to a rented apartment with my family. I don’t have a penny left. The job was the only way to support my family. Now I don’t know how to take care of my family along with my treatment. Please help me, for I want a normal life and see my little daughter growing.” – Biswanath with teary eyes.
