Born After 12 Years Of Marriage, Their Week-Old Baby Boy Is Fighting A Deadly Brain Infection Causing Seizures

Ritu gave birth to her baby boy after 12 years of marriage. It was an endless wait for the couple to embrace their baby in their loving arms. But, today they are forced to painfully watch him fight for his life in the NICU.

"All my relatives had shunned me for being unable to conceive. They even forced my husband to marry someone who could bear a child. I was terrified that my husband would leave me under the influence of society. But instead, he decided to adopt my relative's newborn daughter, whose husband had abandoned her for giving birth to a girl child. She was in no position to raise her daughter alone and that was the day when I became a mother by heart, not by my womb."- Ritu, mother

A severe brain infection has gripped this baby

Ritu and Ravi believed it was their adopted daughter's luck that helped them give birth to their own child after years of struggle. But due to complications during pregnancy, Ritu gave birth preterm which led to severe infections in her newborn.

Currently, their baby is in the NICU, suffering from severe brain infection and respiratory distress syndrome. His organs couldn't develop properly and that's why he needs crucial care for a few more months. They tried to take him off the ventilator to see if their baby could breathe on his own, but his condition worsened immediately without oxygen support.

Weighing barely a kilogram, their baby needs continued NICU care

Every day, Ravi has to shell out Rs.7,000 to Rs.25,000 for his baby's NICU care, depending on his oxygen requirements. In order for his baby to survive, he needs to gather 8 lakhs for the entire treatment, which will last a few more weeks until the newborn can recover.

"He weighs just a kilogram, which is putting immense pressure on his fragile and weak body. The brain infection has led to him experiencing multiple seizures. He needs external oxygen to breathe but I'm unable to keep up with the costs of his treatment. It has been weeks that we haven't held our baby in our arms since his birth. If we fail to keep him in the NICU for a few more weeks, we will never get a chance to hold him." - Ravi, father

An electrician by profession, Ravi is struggling to continue his baby's treatment

Ritu is still not medically fit to get out of her bed but it's very difficult for Ravi to convince her to rest. Seeing her so distraught over their ailing baby, Ravi is unable to leave her alone and go for work. He works as an electrician and hasn't earned a single penny since the beginning of this year.

"What was supposed to be a joyous moment for us has now become a day that makes us shudder with pain. My wife hasn't stopped crying seeing my baby covered in tubes. I wish I could take them out of this miserable condition."- Ravi, father
