Deadly Cancer Threatens To Claim This Mother’s Life And Tear Her Family Apart

“Just 5 months ago, we were a simple family with our own blessings and struggles. Today, we spend each day in uncertainty and anxiety, worrying about our mother, and the hold her cancer has on her body. We have lost everything over these last few months, yet we have somehow made it through. But the only thing we won’t be able to survive is losing our mother.” - Tanzil

A persistent back pain led to consultations with numerous specialists, but no conclusive results

It was only 5 months ago, when Anjum Parwez, started experiencing back pain that would not subside. Like in any normal circumstances of such nature, her family approached an orthopaedist in their hometown in Ranchi, and she was prescribed some medicines for a month. However, as soon as she stopped taking the medicine, the back pain returned.

“My mother was referred to a neurologist and a gastroenterologist. She underwent physiotherapy and was even prescribed more medicines. But she’d only get temporary relief. It was a never ending cycle, which was going nowhere. With every passing day we could see our mother was suffering. There was uncertainty and confusion, with no clarity in sight.” - Tanzil

The final diagnosis claimed the last of their peace

After months of running around, a CT Scan and ultrasound finally detected the real cause of her suffering. But the results that came back felt no less than a death sentence to Anjum and her family, as it revealed that Anjum was suffering from Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a cancer affecting lymph tissues.

“We couldn’t even wrap our heads around the diagnosis. We were convinced that the tests were wrong because my mother is the healthiest person I know. She is the backbone of our family and the one who holds us all together. How could she have cancer? We consulted several other doctors with the hope that the diagnosis might be wrong. But they all had the same thing to say.”  – says Tanzil

Her treatment was delayed for 15 days, during which her health rapidly deteriorated

“We took her to a hospital in Hyderabad, but instead of being treated she was prescribed tests after tests. We spent money like water, and yet nearly 15 days passed by with no treatment whatsoever. To pay off her hospital bills I claimed all the money I could from my insurance, and even spent all our family’s savings.” - Tanzil

The family was quick to move Anjum to another hospital where, after initial examination and confirmation of her diagnosis, the doctor urged for immediate treatment as a lot of time had been lost. However, they are now unable to keep her treatment going, as all their resources have been used up.

With a special-needs brother to take care of and after exhausting all his resources, his mother’s life-saving treatment is beyond his means

“My family hails from a humble background. My sister is married and I am the only earning member with a private sector job and a decent salary, which was sufficient for us until now. I even have to look after my younger brother, who has Down Syndrome. We have even claimed money from every possible means we had to continue her treatment. But now, we are left with nothing. Please, please help us to keep our mother alive.” – Tanzil, tearfully
