Dear Well Wishers,
Greetings of the day!
We hope you and your loved ones are healthy and safe in these extremely challenging times.
We, the Bodhi Tree Foundation, are stepping in to respond to the challenges our girls face and bridge the gap that has been created because of the pandemic. In view of that, we are planning to build a 100 days fully residential fellowship program for girls. The fellowship aims to provide training to young girls on leadership and to create an ecosystem of rural women who will inspire each other to become change-makers. We aspire to engage 100 young girls this year who will benefit from a 100 days immersive learning journey.
About the fellowship:
The aims of our fellowship are:
● Build a safe space for rural youth where they could express their opinions, learn key life skills, identify the obstacles to their aspiration, and prepare themselves to be responsible citizens
. ● To provide career guidance by connecting them to a mentor; give them access to resources by engaging them with professional organizations for internships, and prepare them for better career opportunities.
● Make the academy a hub for learning, ideating, discussing, experimenting, and sharing knowledge and experiences.
Through our work at Bodhi Tree Foundation, we get the opportunity to work with young girls who have immense potential but are constricted by social barriers. The barriers are many: a place of living, lack of accessibility, caste, class, gender, and sexual orientation. The stories we hear from our girls often remind us of the saying attributed to Seneca: ‘Sometimes even to live is an act of courage.’ With 500+ calls and numerous home visits this year, we have personally witnessed the struggle they have put up to attend college. The pandemic has only worsened their family situations, furthering their vulnerability of being discouraged from pursuing education. Their homes, in the majority of the cases, are led by single mothers, aunts, and uncles, or my grandparents. Now, our girls need us more than anytime before to help them navigate the added pressures of poverty and gender expectations. Due to the pandemic, they need to negotiate harder with their families because their education is deprioritized. They are persuaded to be convinced by their family members to drop out of college. A consequence of this would be that the girls will get married early, and take on responsibilities at home: a responsibility which they were not prepared for, and unwilling to take in the first place. Our girls need the support because they are battling with feelings of hopelessness, low self-esteem, and sometimes even self-harm. To answer your question of ‘What Can I do?’ Bodhi Tree Foundation is planning to launch a crowdfunding campaign on the eve of “International Youth day” which lies on August 12, 2021, to raise funds for the cause of ‘fellowship for Girls’. Your donation will cover the expenses of the fellowship program which includes training costs, accommodation, and food.
● With your INR 500 contribution, one passionate girl can have a wholesome day at the fellowship.
● Your INR 1,000 contribution meets the one-day expense of two girls at the fellowship.
● A 3,000 INR contribution would mean that six ambitious girls will have an immersive day at the fellowship.
● With your contribution of INR10,000, ten aspiring girls can spend their day effective
● INR 50,000 can support 100 vibrant youth to spend a quality day with invaluable takeaways.
Contribution worth any amount you can afford to help us provide a platform for rural college graduates. A platform that creates a space for them to express their opinions and aspirations with no inhibitions, and elevate their confidence to pursue choices of their own. We emphasize that your support for this cause will be invaluable. It will have a life-altering impact on many rural college graduates who are striving to get access to better opportunities, which for them is a chance to create a better life. We will personally connect the donor to the girl they sponsor, and the girl will be communicating the progress of the project with the donor through letters, calls, and other social media platforms.
We hope you resonate with our cause and make an attempt to encourage girls' education in whatever way you can.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Bodhi Tree Foundation.
