Single Mother Has Been Fighting Alone To Save Her 15-Year-Old

"I have been taking care of my family since my husband passed away in 2010. Vaibhav is my younger son and since his childhood, he has always wanted to be a cricketer and to play for India. He was really small when he was diagnosed with the blood disease and he has been fighting since then. Yes, there have been difficulties and Vaibhav’s sickness have made things more challenging but I have never considered that as a roadblock for his dreams. I will do everything possible to help my son fulfill his dreams” - Madhu Asudani, mother.

Madhu has left no stone unturned to give her sons the best of everything
Madhu teaches Economics at a school and she is the sole breadwinner for her family. She has been a dedicated mother who has multitasked all her duties. When her elder son, Divyansh decided to study engineering, she was determined to make it possible despite the financial constraints. Vaibhav, her second son, was diagnosed with a blood disease called Thalassemia Major. Despite diagnosis at an early age, Madhu encouraged him to follow his dreams and start playing cricket."Every time Vaibhav watches Virat Kohli play his eyes lit up. He looks at me and tells ‘Mama, I will also play for India one day and you will watch me at the stadium. You would, won’t you?’ I nod my head and go out of the room. I don’t want him to see me crying - he has always been a fighter, I don’t want him to break down seeing my weakness.”

Vaibhav has spent a large part of his childhood in and out of the hospital because of blood transfusions
Vaibhav was diagnosed with Thalassemia Major since he was just 3 months old. Since then, he has been battling this disease with the help of regular blood transfusions. Vaibhav also needs to undergo an iron chelation therapy which is used when the body has an iron overload. Iron overload means the body has excess of iron due to regular blood transfusions.
Vaibhav when the disease hadn't taken a toll on him
"Money has flown out of our hands over the past few years. But Vaibhav has not gotten any better. Even when my husband was alive, we struggled a lot. It has been a long journey. Vaibhav has now made plans of joining a summer camp for budding cricketers next summer when he came to know that a transplant will save him. It's the only way he can stay alive". - Madhu.

Dear Supporters,
I am overwhelmed with the love you have shown Vaibhav.
He was admitted this week in the hospital for the first cycle of chemotherapy. He will require a total of two cycles of chemotherapy. The chemotherapy should get over by mid-December.
Once the chemotherapy is over, he will undergo the bone marrow transplant. I have been identified as the potential donor.
Thank you all for your love and support. Both of us are very grateful to you all.
