Why am I fundraising?
I teach a class of 50 enthusiastic sixth graders at a low income school in Seelampur, Delhi. At some point of time we have all seen those statistics relating to educational inequity, even those fancy pie-charts in our everyday coffee table journal. But the past one year in a low income school have given each of those statistics a name and a face in the form of a student in my class.
Today, through this page I ask you to help me. Help me bring about a change, a change powerful enough to prove that it doesn’t matter where you come from if you have it in you to reach for the stars. I believe that all kids are capable of doing it, they just need our support. I cannot fight this battle alone; I need your help and support.
Every moment is a challenge for my kids. Unlike us, they are not fortunate enough to go back to a healthy learning environment after school. Leisure for them means loitering in the streets, witnessing actions and activities which normalize delinquency, truancy and violence for them. Everyday my kids have to sit on the floor during 5 hours of school. Sometimes we have classes in the corridors or on the stairs. Resources are limited- even to buy decent books. But these kids are resilient, they have a dream- a dream that will propel them towards prosperity, get them out of the cycle of poverty. They are the future artists, doctors, writers, footballers, mathematicians and politicians among others. But more importantly they are the future of India! They are our future.
How will the funds be used?
The amount collected would be used for:
Procuring small writing desks
Books (Mini Library)
A dictionary and a personal journal for each child
Painting the classroom
Worksheets, teaching aids and stationery
Field Trips (for exposing kids to possibilities beyond their community)
A computer with internet inside the classroom
Real World simulation of concepts learnt inside classroom
We do not have any shiny souvenirs to send you back for your gratefulness, just a heartfelt thanks.
Any help is appreciated and no amount will go unnoticed. It’s your money and you have every right to know if it is being used the right way. I will share a Google document with all the donors, where they can keep a track of the funds.
You are welcome to visit my classroom any time. For any queries, please reach out to me on +91-9643944165 or feel free to drop an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you want to meet me personally, I am up for it.
