Hello I am Tamanna,
I am currently studying at school
I have started this fundraiser to collect funds for a project called ‘SUKHAD’ an initiative was taken by an NGO - Hamari pehchan.SUKHAD is an initiative to make the life of underprivileged women a little easier during the time of menstruation. Providing them with sanitary pads, educating them regarding menstrual hygiene, and making all of us understand that ‘Periods’ and talking about the same is not a taboo.
For many of us, menstruation is a normal process that occurs every month. It doesn’t usually have an impact on our personal and professional development. For many women in the world, this is not the case. Menstruation inhibits people from attending school or working, as well as performing daily tasks such as cooking, praying, exercising, and even staying in their own homes.
In rural India, menstruation is embedded in myths and taboos. Due to cultural and religious beliefs, menstruation is perceived as dirty, impure, and even unholy. Because of this, menstruation is surrounded by a culture of silence and shame. Menstruating women are often expected to follow a set of restrictions during their periods
It is not openly talked about in families or at school. Furthermore, most rural women lack awareness or are too poor to buy sanitary napkins or tampons.
Only a small percentage of women in India actually use sanitary napkins, an alternative they use is a cloth that is highly unsanitary and leads to many diseases such as urinary infections, urinary tract infections, or fungal infections.
To solve this problem we distribute ‘menstrual hygiene kits’ and educate them on how to maintain their hygiene and health. The main objective behind the initiative was to educate women on their menstruation, and how to deal with it. We not only wanted to help these women with better menstrual hygiene but also give them employment under the ‘skill development initiative’.
Furthermore, we spoke to and provided other employment opportunities to women, helping them live a self-reliant life of dignity in society. To make sanitary napkins more accessible for menstruating women, the NGO is working to inaugurate the project ‘PAD Making Machine’, providing women with not only a safer menstrual cycle but also employment.
Sukhad project will help us in eradicating the taboo related to menstrual hygiene and we will try to educate maximum people about periods. This year we aim to distribute 50,000 sukhad kits.
