Help a strong and proud Mother

Last time when I talked to Waheeda, she was proudly telling me about her three daughters, how she was educating them and inspiring them to be someone in this world. Today I was talking to her youngest daughter Humera. She told me she cannot come to class tomorrow as her mother is in hospital. She requested if I could send her the class recordings.

Waheeda has been in hospital since last Wednesday. Her lungs are filled with water, one of the kidneys has failed and her blood count is falling to precariously low levels. The doctors are struggling to keep her stable. She is in ICU costing Rs7,000 per day. They have already spent Rs 60,000 till date. Her husband is a cab driver and his earnings are Rs 80,000 in a year. They are well beyond their capacity to sustain. They had to move her to a cheaper hospital with limited facilities, so compromises are already being made.

Humera asked me to pray for her mother. She told me she is not crying at all. Instead, she is telling her elder sisters to be strong. She is only 11.

Wanted to share this part good news.
Waheeda is back home with her family. After 5 days of fighting for her life in the ICU, her lungs finally cleared and BP stabilised. Her blood count returned to normal too. The kidney is functioning but she is not yet 100%. She was undergoing dialysis before she was released. The hospital has asked her to return for a checkup after 15 days. However, her legs were heavily swollen again and she had to go for another checkup yesterday. She will probably need to be admitted again.

That she could return home is the most important part. And I could see the children smiling. What a different picture from a week back.

With all your combined effort, we have been able to raise close to our target. So thanks to you all, we almost made it! The expenses of the family went above a lakh though, but this amount will be of immense help. I could feel the emotion they were going through when they saw the amount for the first time. This wouldn't have happened without all your support. Waheeda will still need our prayers and wishes to make a full recovery.
She still needs to still undergo dialysis as her kidneys are only working 10%, that's the latest update. So please keep her and her family in your prayers.
