Vishwas, while life was difficult before pandemic, was able to feed his family of four selling Channa's in the local trains. He and his wife both are fully blind.
There are 150 such blind families at Azad Chowk Slum, Nigdi, who used to sell toys, sing songs and beg in trains and at the bus stops. Since the pandemic, their income has gone down to zero. They are in such dire straits and barely have any means to put food on the table for a single meal. While there are lots of charities out there we found these families to be the neglected lot.
Since October last year, about 40 of us have contributed for a Rs 2000 Ration kit consisting of food and daily essential to support 50 families. As the lockdown restriction has eased, a few of us have also formed a think tank to look at ways to make the families self-sustain either help educate their child, help set up a small shop or rent a rickshaw. There are many more families that needs our support. Please join us in adopting a family with your monthly contribution.

How do we ensure the money makes to the right people?
Every month the funds are collected via 1) a fundraiser or 2) directly transferred to Goyal Provision Stores, a wholesale grocer at Pune Market Yard. The owner Amit Goyal packages the ration kit at the wholesale rate for a single-family in individual packets. Amit a believer in our cause do not charge us any extra for packing or transportation charges. The kits are then distributed to the families. We verify the mobile number and picture of each family at the time of distribution.
