SUPPORT WOMEN EMPOWERMENT AND THEIR FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE!
Unemployment has touched an all time high as the pandemic engulfed employment opportunities. With countless breadwinners on the streets, families starved on a daily basis. The number of people unemployed in India rose from 43.32 million in 2021 to 44.20 million in 2022. An increase by nearly one million! Furthermore, research tells us that one in four women in urban areas is unemployed. Our youth and women are worst hit by the ongoing unemployment crisis; they deserve equal and ample opportunities to earn their livelihood.
Hamari Pahchan NGO’s initiative called the SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM conducts workshops and training sessions for women from underprivileged backgrounds and destitute youth and helps them find employment as well as provides a platform to sell their products, thereby providing them with financial security. We help them move towards a life of self-sufficiency or ‘atma nirbharta’.
We start with identifying the skill gaps and conducting surveys and then based on our findings, honing and developing those skills further. Our aim is to empower women and make them capable enough to earn their livelihoods. We conduct classes for Makeup, Handicrafts, Knitting, Sewing, Embroidery, Candle and Diya making, Music etc.
All the proceeds from the sale of their products goes towards the women’s benefit. We provide them with training by skilled professionals as well as raw material and necessary equipment. After the women are finished with their training, we also provide them with certificates that may aid in their job search and also assist them in finding lucrative employment opportunities.
From time to time, we also participate in Festivals, Melas, Society events, School and college fairs to showcase their work by putting up stalls, thereby garnering attention and a positive turnover for the event.
Under this initiative, we introduced a major step ‘Vocal for Local’ and had these women create handicraft products, hydro-dipping and jewellery thereby employing them amidst the pandemic. Among the products they created were tote bags, wallets, nameplates, coasters, document folders, sunglass covers, pouches, jute bags etc. These products can be found on our official website for purchase.
The objective of this initiative was not only to bring strength to our economy by switching to goods manufactured locally but also to help the weaker sections of society who were the worst hit by the pandemic and lost their livelihoods.
I am Ananya, a final year law student working with Hamari Pahchan. I have worked for this cause relentlessly with the help of this organisation. I urge you to support our cause.
