We are reaching out today to support our dear friend Unni (Unnikrishnan S) in his brave battle against advanced esophageal cancer.
Diagnosed in March 2024, Unni began treatment with immense courage, undergoing multiple cycles of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. He showed significant improvement, with the cancer shrinking by almost 80%. This progress brought us renewed hope, but an unexpected turn occurred when the immunotherapy induced a rare side effect, forcing the treatment to be paused for over two months. During this time, his cancer returned with renewed intensity.
Now, a new opportunity has emerged in the form of a promising medication called Enhertu, which has shown remarkable results in recent cases. Unni has been identified as an ideal candidate for this treatment. He has already started the new therapy, and the early results have been encouraging. However, the financial burden is immense.
Each cycle of this medication costs approximately ₹9.2 lakhs (US$11,000). Including additional medications and hospital expenses, the total per cycle cost rises to around ₹12 lakhs (US$14,400). With 17 cycles required over the course of a year, the estimated total cost is over ₹2 crores (US$239,000). Unni has exhausted his medical insurance and personal savings, and to continue the treatment, he urgently needs our support.
