Good education enables us to develop into healthy, happy adults, capable of facing the daily challenges in this world while living a contended life and contributing to the well-being of society.
Udhbhavaha, a community education center, is an initiative of Vidyakshetra Trust, a registered not-for-profit organization. We are located in Muddaiahnapalya, a village on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
Our effort is to create an intimate learning space, where a child receives good education and wholesome nourishment for the physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual dimensions of one’s being. At Udhbhavaha, education is connected with life and encourages fearless self-expression while being rooted in the culture of our land. Our outreach programs Dhrishti and Charcha are an attempt to create a conscious society by helping people think seriously about our current lifestyle and the choices we make.
The design and every aspect of Udhbhavaha is aligned with the values and the principles it stands for. We aim at building a mindset of co-existence and inclusivity.
Udhbhavaha runs on a daan-based model. The closest English translation for DAAN is “selfless donation”. Parents and well-wishers of Udhbhavaha generously offer daan required for our sustenance. Most not-for-profit educational institutions across the world survive on external support to meet their monetary requirements.
We have adopted a “needs-based salary” approach, meaning, the salaries of people at Udhbhavaha is not decided based on their qualification, work-experience or the position they hold. Teachers here enjoy learning with children, are self-reflective and do not treat this as a job. A person who joins Udhbhavaha shares his/her financial requirement based on their family needs. It is often difficult to meet those needs, balancing with our affordability, due to paucity of funds. The current pandemic situation has added to this difficulty and hence we are reaching out beyond our community for support.
Donations made to Udhbhavaha are exempted from Income Tax under section 80G.
