We, a group of 2nd-year students at IIM Ahmedabad, are arranging a fundraiser for three families to support their livelihood:
- Subhashbhai is a craft artist and sells wooden handicraft items near Gandhi ashram. A fall in the number of visitors due to pandemic has adversely impacted his business. Subhashbhai is the only earning member in the family of 6 members (wife, daughter, grandchild, 2 sons). His elder son had to drop out of higher secondary school and is currently working to support the business. To pivot his business, he has started selling bottle cork lights (as shown in pics) and needs more money to buy raw material for similar items which he intends to sell during the Diwali season. We are working with the Infoanalytica foundation to fund the procurement of required material. (Amount required: INR 7,000)
- Shanti Roy is a seventy-three-year-old domestic helper in Kolkata. Her only son has a small shop in her village which was forcefully shut down since COVID has struck, as it was deemed non-essential. Despite her age, she has been the only bread earner in her family for the last two years. Her dream is to see both of her grandchildren become graduate students and all her income is going towards buying books and paying for the school and college fees. In some months she sacrifices her medicines. We have helped her with clothes, food supplies, and are currently helping her son find a job. We would like to raise funds to help support her and her family so that she can fulfill her medical needs (INR 3,000 per month) without compromising on her grandchildren’s studies for two months. (Amount required: INR 6,000)
- Shradha is in class ten and dreams of becoming a nurse. Her father worked as a driver and her mother is a domestic help but they both lost their jobs in the pandemic. Shradha’s classes moved online, and it became increasingly difficult for her to keep track of her studies. Her parents have limited savings which they are using towards day-to-day expenditure. They had purchased a second-hand smartphone that stopped working two months ago. We need to raise funds to help her purchase a smartphone for her studies. (Amount required: INR 7,000)
