There is urgent need to Supply Food and medical aid to at least 1500 Tribal & Rural Families of Raigad (Maharashtra). Most of these families are Below Poverty Line belonging to PVTG (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group) Tribe and they are affected by Shutdown due to Coronavirus Pandemic.
It is important to note that out of these tribal families who are not having Ration Card, Aadhar Card (or other Government Documents), etc hence they cannot avail of the Ration being supplied by the Government at the Ration/PDS outlets. They urgently require help from civil society for their survival.

The Tribes of Raigad villages (Maharashtra) are mostly Daily-Wage Manual Laborers, from more than a month their daily income is gone, due to Coronavirus pandemic and they are left in extreme poverty and deprivation.

Vulnerability of one group of these Tribal families is already further worsened by the fact that their village - was uprooted and destroyed in the 2019 floods. (CEI had provided Flood-Relief and Rehabilitation service to those Tribals last year -
https://milaap.org/fundraisers/support-tribals-displaced-by-flood-in-welatwadi-village-in-raigad-maharashtra ).

There are Extremely Poverty-Stricken tribal children from village of Khalapur town (Raigad District) for e.g. these are young children whose father Ram Waghmare recently passed away in an accident. These orphaned Tribal Children barely in their teens have to look after their aged grandfather and ailing mother.

These orphaned children belong to Katkari Tribe which is classified by Ministry of Tribal Affairs as PVTG i.e. Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (Only 3 tribes comes under PVTG category out of 47 tribal groups in Maharashtra)There are thousands of such families in extremely vulnerable situation, who are in urgent need of Food & Medical Aid especially in these unprecedented times where we are fighting against Coronavirus pandemic.

The Funds will be utilized in providing Food Package, basic Medical Kit for prevention of contracting Coronavirus (additionally, the logistics & administrative cost will be included for ensuring these provisions reach to the intended beneficiaries spread across more than 30 villages):

  • Every Single Food Package will have Ration for 1 month for 1 family consisting of Rice, Flour, Pulses, Salt, Sugar etc.
  • Medical Kit for prevention of contracting Coronavirus per family: Hand Sanitizer, Masks, Soap, Hand Wash and Lysol.
We will also collaborate with Local Administration to ensure that proper laws & regulations are followed in transportation of these provisions to the Rural and Tribal areas of Raigad (Maharashtra).

Update #25:

Thank you for your Support to this Humanitarian Pan-India Endeavor of Ensuring Food-Aid, Medi-Care, Relief & Rehabilitation to sections of society terribly affected by the nation-wide lock-down & various natural calamities, ACROSS India.

1) Since past 22 weeks CEI is conducting food aid program for the most destitute sections of our society.

▪ CEI's food relief initiative has enabled tribals like Ramnath ji who belong to particularly vulnerable tribal groups and have been out of labour work to get food provisions for their children.

The CEI team has dedicated its life to Empowering society Selflessly, Fearlessly and Egolessly leading India to become truly Self-Reliant (आत्म-निर्भर)

2) ▪  CEI's food relief initiative has empowered tribals like Reba ji, who lives alone as her son has migrated since past 6 months to work in the mines as labor

▪  CEI also began Tribal Entrepreneurship Program in Warli Paintings among the tribal women, 6 months ago.

CEI gave training, market access to Tribal women to ensure Warli Painting and Art becomes a viable Entrepreneurship Project.

3) Effects of Pandemic in villages of Raigad (Maharashtra) has been destructive and it is extremely difficult for PVTG Katkari tribals who survive on day-to-day basis by temporary labor.

▪ Provided 1 month's food provision to Babinath ji who is tribal senior citizen. Utterly destitute, she doesn't have anyone to take care of her & she is without Ration card. CEI is also providing her medical aid.

▪ BPL tribal Anusuya ji is an example of courage. She alone looks after her young daughter by working in rice fields as temporary laborer.

CEI provided a month’s worth of ration to Babinath Ji, Anusuya Ji and their families.

4) From the Long term perspective CEI has been focusing on Sustainable Livelihood initiatives in various sectors for the BPL rural sections in both demographies of men and women.

▪ CEI Team repaired the hut of Tribal Ram Bhauji ji and CEI also provided family of Ram ji food provisions sufficient for 1 month for himself

5) *From utter despair to Indomitable Spirit: Incredible Success Story of CEI Tribal Leader Kishan Waghmare ji!*

At CEI, rebuilding lives does not construe a mechanic exercise of reconstructing broken huts & providing sustainable livelihoods (which are undoubtedly also important).

Here, it goes beyond that into the realm of rekindling hope, spirit, courage within the most distraught, devastated. One such story is of our very own Tribal Leader Shri Kishan Waghmare ji:

Shri Kishan Waghmare Ji belongs to BPL PVTG category and lost his livelihood in lockdown. He had started brick-kiln unit which was destroyed due to Cyclone, along with the roof of his house. Additionally, all the ration in his house was swept away in floods.

His young children had to face starvation due to abject poverty. His father had passed away a few months ago due to ill health.

Despite being faced with such difficult times, Kishan Ji did not lose heart. CEI helped him to start his own livelihood initiative and also ensured that his children don't starve!

CEI truly provides framework of Holistic Empowerment, that brings about lasting transformation in society.

Thank you for your support.

Update:

OM Namah Shivay!

We at Confederation of Empowerment Initiatives (CEI) have decided to increase the duration of this Fundraiser as COVID-19 cases are increasing every day, Economic Lockdown is still in force and we’re stopping illegal migration from taking place.

Our Relief-Rehabilitation-Reconstruction Efforts are still on, and we are now countering the Long-Term Economic Impact of Natural Calamities (Eg. Cyclones, Floods), National Lockdown, Economic Slowdown, Increasing COVID-19 cases.

We’re also working towards providing Relief & Rehabilitation to Migrant Labourers who have lost their ability to work elsewhere due to the Nationwide lockdown.

CEI has now expanded its scope of work to all parts of Maharashtra, and in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha, Jharkhand.

Countering Long-Term Economic Impact is an ongoing process that needs to be dealt with immediately & with utmost priority – hence, we’re extending the duration of this Milaap Fundraiser.

We thank you for your support.
