COVID 19 has landed our country in a socio-economic crisis, and the burden of it is more recognized in the rural sector. The greatest challenge will be to protect the geriatric population (>65yrs) and those with co-morbidities from exposure to potential source of infection i.e. Nosocomial and through routine hospital visits. Also, for every visit an individual has to make to the hospital he has to bear the travel expenses and also the consultation fees of the doctor.
Sudhanand Arogya Vahini (Lab in a Van) is a self-sustaining and scalable model, equipped with a telecommunication unit and a diagnostic pathology laboratory which functions as a door to door surveillance unit and provides diagnostic facilities and consultation with a specialist doctor online, thereby preventing the susceptible population from visiting hospitals, and aiding in halting community transmission of Covid-19 in rural areas where access to quality health care is limited, expensive and difficult.
