Sudhanand Arogya Vahini (Lab in a Van) is a self-sustaining and scalable model, equipped with a telecommunication unit and a diagnostic pathology laboratory which functions as a door to door surveillance unit and provides diagnostic facilities and consultation with a specialist doctor online, thereby preventing the susceptible population from visiting hospitals, and aiding in halting community transmission of Covid-19 in rural areas where access to quality health care is limited, expensive and difficult.
As the lab is taken to the community and consultation is provided online, out of pocket expenses incurred by the patient during these economically pressing times is nullified, thus bringing much needed financial relief. Data collected through survey will be used for further studies regarding prevalence, progression and changing trends of the disease. The unit will also provide community awareness regarding social distancing, hygienic practices, life style modifications and rationale behind early diagnosis and management of chronic diseases.
SAV will definitely make a significant difference in this regard as the diagnosis will be at the door step and consultation will be done online which will be free of cost. Also, through SAV the laboratory investigations are done at a subsidized cost which would otherwise cost the patient a considerable sum. This will help the patients monetarily in a substantial way.
