Violence in the name of “fun” is prevalent all around- be it newspaper articles, social interactions or our own personal experiences. In the past four years, our work with more than 450 schools has strengthened the depth of these lines: “Students in the name of masti (fun) engage in physical hitting, emotional violence, and, often neglected but highly prevalent sexual violence.”

The Problem:
Empirical evidence, as cited by the Indian Journal of Medical Research in 2018, suggests that approximately 50% of the 356 million young people in India experience mental health challenges. The prevalence of bullying incidents in schools, coupled with academic pressure and a lack of empathy among peers, contributes significantly to students' distress. These concerns often culminate in negative emotional states such as stress, anxiety, loneliness, and, in severe cases, depression. The deleterious effects can extend into adulthood, impairing social and occupational functioning.

Post conducting a survey (2022-23) in more than 68 schools some other common presenting concerns among students are:

Past Work with Teach for India:
In recent times, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of mental health and its impact on adolescents well-being and overall productivity. Aatma Prakash has already conducted more than a 1000+ individual and group session with government school students from across the country under our flagship program- MindShala. Some of our achievements post conducting MindShala with Teach for India students are:

Our Aim:
To positively intervene and directly work with 2500+ students from government schools, a year-long intervention (2023-24) has been designed by Aatma Prakash Foundation and Teach For India. Under the program MindShala, we aim to make mental health accessible and timely among adolescents in India. This year in particular we are extending our year long intervention with 2500+ adolescents, 40 schools across 8 cities in India.

Finance Status:
To strengthen the capacity of this program Teach for India has already support Aatma Prakash with INR. 3,50,000/-. A team of more than 25+ counsellors from across eight cities are working towards building emotionally safe and empathetic spaces for young people. We are mentioning below our financial action plan:
