I am Ayra Chandra Reddy Mekapati, a dog lover studying in grade 5, and I want to make a difference. Just because I’m ten years old does not mean I can’t change opinions, minds and ways of daily lifestyles. I have a passion for these key hobbies that include - baking, swimming, and piano
How it all started
On 11/8/2022 I was on the bus on my way to school, well the bus ride was quite a long one because of the Bangalore traffic. Anyways I couldn’t help but notice how sad the street dogs were, so I assumed that they were sleepy cause it was just 7 in the morning. But I still felt something was wrong, it came to me they were probably hungry and thirsty. I thought of that reason because I didn’t see any food or water bowls lying around nor did I see comfy beds lying around.
Immediately knew I had to do something because - dogs are the only ones in the world that love you more than they love themselves. I decide somehow I had to give what they give to us, back to themselves
The idea
On that bus ride I was thinking how to make an difference or an impact on the lives of the street dogs, first I thought of ideas to make money because if I had to provide one of the key basic needs which is shelter I would have to build a place to keep the dogs in and that would need a whole lot of money.
Then if I would have to buyfood and bowls for dogs I would need money again, everything seemed impossible without the word money, then it came to me I could set up a fundraiser where people could donate money. Oh yayI realized I had another problem. My parents just got a dog for me for my bday and they were stressed enough with her. So I decided to write them a letter but by the time the letter idea came to me I reached school. So I decided to write the letter on the bus the way back home even though my mom says writing in a moving vehicle was bad for your eyes but I was Really desperate.
By the time I got off I finished the letter and when I went home I realized my parents were not there so I decided I could start making the fundraiser. I used the platform Milaap. Things were starting to fall in place and the next day… To my surprise my mom and dad were proud of me for thinking of this idea. They said that they wanted to support me, they helped me activate my Milaap account. They shared it with family members and a few friends. Then my mom gave me this wonderful idea of writing the story of my journey as I express my ideas best in writing
The Funds
The funds you are donating will be used to provide basic needs to the dog like, vaccination, proper food, water and if the dog has any diseases to attend to the disease. First we plan to build a dog daycare center in the house premises where we can provide shelter to the street dogs and give them their basic needs, after the dogs have been treated to any diseases they have, we will try to find them a new home through the process of adoption. To do so I will be collaborating with Mr.Sujith for guidance as he is a dog enthusiast and has a whole 35 years of experience in taking care of dogs who also happens to be an ethical dog breeder.
The cost of taking care of one dog which includes food, basic vaccines like dhpp and all in one - vanguard, multivitamins would be around 4000-5000/month. This is the calculations I’ve arrived at after doing my research and taking the guidance of Mr.Sujith. My goal is to raise 10 lakhs of which i intend to use 5 lakhs for the welfare of ten dogs to begin with and another 5 lakhs to build the daycare/shelter .I would like to keep all my donors updated with the progress of my project through emails and messages
