Pawriwar (Instagram Handle: https://instagram.com/pawriwar.0_o?igshid=1m8osohn9ng37) is a small initiative to feed strays in and around Sarojini Nagar. The whole problem started with the government's redevelopment policy which called for the reconstruction of government colonies. With residents being shifted elsewhere, strays were stripped of their only source of food. The unprecedented lockdown further worsened the problem as all local food joints were entirely shut. Realizing the grave implication it would have on strays, we, with our little savings, started feeding the strays. What started as a one-time feeding drive for 20 strays, grew into a humongous family of 250, wherein we not just fed strays, but also did adoptions & vaccination drives, along with rescue services within just 4 months of operation. We have also been thoroughly working on the quality of our service, initially, we fed Milk and Chapati to strays, but we have now switched to chicken rice, which we procure from Puppy Bowls. Our monthly expenditure amounts to 35,000/- on feeding alone. Besides, frequent vaccinations, adoptions, rescue cases add to it. Finances have been a hugely inhibiting factor for us. That's not all, we got 21 stray dogs adopted, and fostered & rescued 46, which too adds to the expenses. With a weak financial position and high fluctuations in our monthly funding, we are not able to deliver a quality service to strays that are now entirely dependent on Pawriwar for all their necessities. A strong financial position would help us grow our family count!
