    This fundraiser will benefit

    Sipra Das

    from Noida, Uttar Pradesh

Photojournalist Sipra Das had her entire camera kit stolen from her in Noida, Delhi. Travelling in a shared auto back to her small flat, she was targeted by an organised gang and was very lucky to get away alive.

Sipra was one of the first women photojournalists of the new generation, starting out in Kolkata in the late 1980s. Self-taught, she came from a poor family in Kolkata, moved to Delhi and worked with PTI, India Today, The Telegraph amongst others. As a single woman, her grit and determination have won her the respect and admiration of her fellow journalists and photographers. She has published two highly regarded books on physically challenged persons - a project she continues to follow.

This loss has been devastating for her as the equipment was her sole means of livelihood. It has also been a psychological trauma. The pandemic has dealt a blow to journalists and particularly freelancers as it is. Sipra lives in a small flat in Noida and has no vehicle.

We, fellow photographers, have set up this crowd funding site, to enable her to re-equip her kit, while the police keep up their investigation in the small hopes of recovery.

Please do contribute in any way you can. Some links to her work are posted below.
