Dear all, there is some disturbing news about Shiuli Das, our batchmate who was in Humanities in Class 11&12th. Shiuli is daughter of Mrs Reba Das, our Maths Teacher from middle school. MrsDas had a stroke in 2017 and has severe dementia, but today this appeal is for Shiuli, who has been sole caregiver for her mother. Their sole income is from family pension of Shiuli's father, who retired as a Professor from JNU.
Shiuli has been battling Crohn’s disease for a very long time now. However, the pandemic has badly affected her and she is now in an extremely weak & starved condition. Our batchmate Nirupama Kotru (along with a couple of Shiuli's and her common batchmates from JNU) visited her 10 days ago, with food and support. She was in bed but alert and very happy to see her friends. But after a recent fall in the house, two days ago her condition worsened and her cousin admitted her to the ICU of Batra hospital. Today Nirupama and same friends visited her in hospital.
They have spoken to the Doctors and seen the test reports. Shiuli is not doing too well- her condition is rather grave. Her BP is being artificially maintained, K and albumin levels very very low. Need all prayers and definitely some financial help from DPS Mathura Road community. Immediate crisis is settling her ICU and upcoming medical bills, any supplementary funds we get can be used towards upkeep of MrsRebaDas.
Batra is fortunately not as expensive as Max or Apollo, but we are preparing for the long haul, and need to raise at least Rs 5 to 10 lacs. We have to save Shiuli at any cost. Her JNU batchmates are also trying to raise some money. Every bit counts.
I would request all Batchmates to come forward to help a Batchmate in dire need. Since it is not easy to open bank account for some one else , I take this initiative to collect the money for her in my account. Nirupama will co ordinate with me and the Hospital to do the needful. I request you all to be Generous.
