I am currently a Teach for India fellow teaching students of 4th Grade at Chippa English Girls School in Ahmedabad. As a part of teaching, I, along with my school team (2 fellows teaching 5th and 6th grade) have come up with a plan to set up a science club in our school to provide an opportunity to students to get hands-on experience to science experiments which they can eventually take it back to solve basic problems in their community.

The club will be functional every Saturday from 23rd Feb to 30th March. Since we are planning to give them a hands-on experience, we are planning to procure science kits from Butterfly Edufields on following topics:
1. Rainwater harvesting
2. Water purification
3. Introduction to lenses and light
4. Components of food
5. Waste Management
These topics cover the basics they see around them in their everyday life and makes it easy for them to connect. These will also help them have a problem-solving approach to utilize these and take them back to their lives.
The price for each kit is ~Rs. 300
We have a total of 65 students across 4th,5th and 6th grade.
Since we also want them to learn the values of collaboration and peer-learning, we are planning to divide them into groups of 4.

Please find below the detailed break-up for funds:
Cost of each kit= Rs. 300
Number of kits required each Saturday= 16 (16 groups of 65 students)
Total Number of operational Saturdays= 4
Number of kits required from 23rd February to 30th March = 16*4= 64
Total cost for kits= Rs 300 (per kit)*64 (kits required) = Rs. 19,200

These funds will help us procure the kits on time and conducting experiments smoothly. It will also provide an opportunity to spark curiosity regarding science amongst the students.
