I lived for a short period in Vellore, but I found the most resilient woman, in Sangeetha Ma'am, who is an avid animal lover and will go to any extents to safeguard the lives of the 10 adult dogs plus 5 new puppies she currently has in her rented house.
Why currently? Because on the basis of a sick dog she comes across her path in Vellore, the number keeps changing, however 8 of them are permanent residents at her house which also houses herself, her son, and two elderly parents. She is the sole earner of her family.
For the last 2 years her landlord and her neighbors have been harassing her to vacate the premises due to the dogs nearby. To tackle that she bought a plot of land to construct a safe sanctuary for her and her family. However, with the 5 new puppies contracting Parvo Virus recently, and the loans she took out to pay for the shelter construction have been difficult to bear alone. Not only this, but to save them, she even rescued rabbits from the meat shops near her house and took care of them until they found better homes.
Which is why, I am creating this fundraiser to help her in any way possible. It is difficult to find people in a small town like Vellore, where there is minimal awareness about animal welfare and ABC program. For all of us who care for animals, we know how difficult it is to ignore an animal in need even if our resources are close to finished.
