Sakkhi is a registered NGO for empowering, educating and creating jobs for the transgender community. Based out of chennai, Sakkhi in the last 3 years has over 200 registered transgenders who have committed themselves to right and respectful living by creating a future for themselves like any other man or woman in the soceity. Sakkhi trains the transgenders and helps them to come over the past by psychological help, communication skills, skill based training to make them ready for any industry to take them as a full time employee. Today over 80 of the transgenders have got full time jobs including Chennai Metro rail and few other notable organisations in house keeping, security, stock maintanence, accounting and logistics. Sakkhi incubates them for a month or two before handholding them into a full time job. Since money is the requirement for a transgender to beg or get involved in sex work, Sakkhi pays them the salary to get them out of the past and prepare them for a future.
