    Sai Charan

    from Hyderabad, Telangana

Mother, the teacher told me today that I am the best boy in the class. I had told you that I will make you and Appa proud,” - little Sai was full of excitement and spoke non-stop on his way back home when his mother, Kamala went to pick him up from the bus stop. Holding her daughter, Vidhya on one side and Sai on another, Kamala would feel happy and content about her little family. But Kamala and her husband, Shankar didn’t know that the future had other grim plans for them. They were unaware that their chirpy and energetic son would be battered by a severe disease.

Sai’s sickness was so severe that in just 20 days he needed a surgery

“He was running a high temperature and was also vomiting. It took us a long while to figure out that it wasn’t typhoid or dengue and that his kidneys were not functioning properly. The doctors in Hyderabad told us that he needed an urgent surgery. Sai got very scared when he heard about it - he didn’t want anyone of us to leave his side. It was painful for us to see him lying down there, afraid and in pain.” - Kamala.

Sai has been diagnosed with Atypical hemolytic-uremic syndrome. It is a disease that affects the normal functioning of the kidneys. Abnormal blood clots form in small blood vessels in the kidneys and restrict the blood flow. This condition is also characterized by low red blood cells and platelet count and can eventually lead to acute kidney failure.

However, despite a surgery, Sai isn’t out of danger

A daily wager, Shankar earns just about enough to support his family. But Sai’s unexpected sickness threw the entire family off track. They left their home in Mancharla, in Andhra Pradesh and travelled to Hyderabad to get Sai the surgery he needed.
“We borrowed from friends and have spent over 4 lakhs for the surgery that Sai required. But despite that, he is not getting any better. He speaks very less and often complains of a pain in his stomach. As he lies down in the bed, all quiet and pale, I can hardly recognize my own son. He needs another surgery but I don’t know how I can arrange for money without any help.” - Shankar.

You can help Sai go back to his older life filled with fun and games

Sai longs to go back to his school - he misses playing kho-kho with his friends. But he needs another surgery to recover completely, but his poor parents can’t afford it. You can extend a helping hand and bring the lost smile on little Sai’s face.

Your support can help Sai live a healthy life
