Sub.: Assistance for Renovation and Construction at B. P. Baria Science Institute.
Myself, Dr. (Mrs.) Farida Paurushasp Minocheherhomji, am a Zoroastrian Parsi lady serving as an I/C
Principal since March 2020 . I am with the Institute since last 31 years from 26-02-1991 . On behalf of my institute and the management, myself in the capacity of I/C Principal of our institute, am making a heart-felt appeal to you for rendering your benevolent assistance in building a seminar hall.
Profile of my Organization:
B. P. Baria Science Institute, Navsari; is one of the oldest Science colleges of India situated in Navsari city in the state of Gujarat. The Parsi community has proved the old saying: Parsi, thy name is charity, to be true by donating large amounts for the development of education and healthcare facilities in Navsari.
Currently five schools teaching upto higher secondary level and Arts, Commerce, Science and Law colleges are managed by the Parsi community trusts. B. P. Baria Science Institute was established in the year 1946 by the munificent donation of Rs. 300000.00 by a Parsi philanthropist Mr. Burjorji Pestonji Baria. It is managed by the S. B. Garda Trust (Minority), belonging to the minority Parsi community. The institute is housed on the campus of a 100 years old heritage building, with additional newer structures constructed on 21783.64 m2 of land. The gross built- in area is 4117.11 m2. It is a Grant-in Aid co-educational degree college recognized under section 2(f) and 12 B of UGC Act 1956. Our Microbiology department in 1950 drew the attention of students from other states to enroll themselves in our institute.
Other principal science subjects offered by the institute are: Chemistry, Physics, Zoology and Mathematics. The total strength of enrolled students exceeds 1400 with almost 65% of them being girls coming from a rural backgroundNeed of A Seminar hall:
Our institute is a co-educational institute, open to all students without consideration of any caste or creed. As it is the only Grant-in-aid institute, the extremely low fee structure allows students to pursue studies in
Science faculty from all strata of the society.
In these days of heavy inflation, the institute survives on the Grants received from Government, but still in many aspects we are lacking to the hilt, as these grants just suffices only for Under-Graduate studies; while any further Post-Graduate courses are to be entirely funded purely by our management.
Inspite of all the constraints the faculties of our institute have been actively participating in research activities including guiding M.Phil. and Ph.D. students as well as presenting research papers at various international and national conferences. We deeply regret the fact that we have not been able to organize any National or International conferences at our campus because of infrastructural constraints.
Looking to the present scenario, and with a future vision in our minds, we urgently feel the need of having a seminar hall for arranging various student centric activities. We have an approx. 3000 sq ft. land wherewe could built a seminar hall, which could accommodate at least 500 students at a time. The institute or the management is not interested in any direct cash for the said purpose. In the capacity of an I/C Principal I would request your good self to help us by raising up the structure for us on the above mentioned land from well known contractors and architect in Navsari to whom you can directly pay the cost
Hence Sir, I am compelled to appeal to Parsi Samaritans and Philanthropists like your good-self to consider our heart-felt appeal and promote our activity by your gracious help which will go in a long way to uplift our students and the institute in particular and the society as a whole in general.
We shall appreciate and honor the donation with a Donor Recognition Plaque at the entrance of the building as per your wishes.
