The need
Winters in many parts of India can be very harsh, especially for villagers and the urban poor who don’t have access to woolen clothing or cover. Many years ago, outside the LNJP hospital in Delhi, 6-year-old Bano hugged a dead body to deal with the cold. Some of you may have heard or read about Bano and her father Habib Bhai. So why are we telling you her story again, over two decades after the incident? Probably because it’s still relevant today.
If you are out at night in any city of North India, we hope you are wrapped up in a layer of warm clothes, because it’s starting to get cold out there right now. In the coming weeks, when it will get really cold, some unfortunate people might die on the roads. They likely will not have any woolen clothes on their body as they struggle through the chilly and windy nights out in the open. For two decades now, Goonj has been highlighting winters as an ignored disaster for the people who have little. We strongly believe that it’s not the cold but lack of clothing that kills people. That makes winters an avoidable and preventable disaster.
Goonj’s winter campaign “Odha Do Zindagi” urges urban masses to contribute winter clothing or monetary contribution for the same, for people who have little to brave through harsh winters. Winter Kits comprises basic essentials like woolens, coats, shoes, mufflers, blankets, covering over 100 villages.
Our Initiative- United Health Care and Optum Holiday Fundraiser
To implement this initiative, UHC GPT and OGA Teams have come together and partnered with Goonj (https://goonj.org/), a highly reputed not for profit organization to support and provide woolens, clothes and blankets to most far-flung villages. Through this initiative we want to raise INR 1,00,000 (One Lakh). MILAAP and Goonj will not charge us any additional fees for this initiative, but there are payment gateway charges for the fund transfers. The donor can add a any amount of TIP if they want to. For example, in below screen capture, if we are donating $100, we can add TIP per our own choice. It can be 0%, 6%, 8%, 10%,12% or any other amount too. But NO Platform charges.

Paytm - 1.77%
Debit/Credit cards - 2.18%
Net banking - 2.36%
Amazon Pay - 2.71%
For donations made in US Dollars using a card issued in the USA (USD): 2.9% + 30cents per donation
For donations made in other foreign currencies or in USD using a card issued outside the USA: 3.9% + 30cents per donation
The campaign will be open from 1st Dec 2021 until 17th Dec 2021.
