Enable people with disabilities to travel and enjoy !
To a destination that everyone likes.………...GOA !

Accessibility assessments for the tourist sites in and around Panjim, GOA.

Imagine, your friends are planning to visit the most popular tourist destination with beautiful beaches- Goa but you are LEFT BEHIND….
How do you feel? Sad, miserable, helpless…

Last January 2023, my own experience of a vacation to goa has not been that pleasing. Living with a locomotor disability I always have very few or no options to travel for work or leisure. Or spending 4 times is the only option for me while I travel.

Goa is known for its vibrant culture, beautiful beaches, rich history, and lively atmosphere. Accessibility challenges have been reported in various parts of Goa, particularly concerning infrastructure and facilities for people with disabilities. While efforts have been made to improve beach accessibility, some beaches still present challenges for individuals with mobility impairments. Uneven terrain and a lack of designated pathways can hinder access. Tourist attractions do not have accessible restrooms, pathways, information points and necessary facilities to accommodate visitors with disabilities. This can include a lack of.

Travel is not only a source of enjoyment but also a means of empowerment and advocacy for individuals with disabilities. It contributes to their overall well-being, personal development, and societal inclusion. Also by traveling and advocating for accessible infrastructure, individuals with disabilities play a crucial role in promoting accessibility and inclusion.

Accessible travel options and inclusive environments contribute to a more equitable society, promoting the full participation and integration of people of all abilities.

Enable me access, plan to facilitate assessment for the built environment in Goa around the city Panjim which is used by the tourists. It includes tourist places such as beaches, forts, budgeted hotels, cafes and clubs, restaurants and transport systems like taxis, autos, bus, train and airports. The project will be conducted in the first week of January 2024.

The main objective is to study the current accessibility of tourist places including accommodations, restaurants, cafes/ clubs in Goa around Panjim. And analyzing the most visited tourist places and nearby hotels, and the transport system used by people with disabilities in goa.

The project is also dedicated to do an exclusive awareness campaign on accessible tourism for the disabled. As a part of this campaign, We would do a series of Vlogs, to explore possibilities, feasibility, facilities (lack of them), and difficulties that people with disabilities face while visiting the selected tourist places.  In this first phase, we would visit 5 selected tourist places, 5 hotels and 5 cafes/ clubs near and in Panjim. Once this phase is over, We are hoping to replicate the same project by visiting other parts of north and south Goa.

The budget includes the travel and accommodation for the 2 facilitators/ accessibility experts and 3 other people with different types disabilities who also carry experience and expertise in Accessibility subject. It also includes the facilitators/ Architects fees for assessments and preparing of assessment reports for each site. It also includes the cost of resources like stationery, measuring tape, prints required in the process.

We are hoping for some support from the department of social justice and welfare, Goa State for this genuine cause.  During this programme our delegation will also demonstrate the concept of accessible tourism in the state.
Below are the shortlisted tourist sites, hotels and restaurants:
TOURIST SITES: Miramar beach, Candolim beach, Baga Beach, Palolem Beach, Bom Jesus Basilica
ACCOMODATIONS: Hotel Park Prime Goa, Hotel Mandovi, Hotel Delmon, Hotel Manvin’s, Hotel Rajdhani.
