Campaign for the Post and Long COVID-19 Awareness and facilitate referrals for free mental health consultations for all age groups in Delhi.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to unprecedented hardship for people across the world. The new daily cases are declining in India; however, many who had infections in past are having complaints of post and long COVID and need counseling and guidance. . A lot of them need a better understanding of their health conditions and some require treatment as well. Alongside, the pandemic has given rise to negative and unfavorable consequences impacting the mental health of the people.
Thus, we aim to address and provide effective services to address these two current public health issues through our following campaigns.

⦁    Post and Long COVID-19 awareness campaign and guidance on management
⦁    Facilitate referral for Free mental health counseling and consultations

⦁    Post and Long COVID-19 awareness campaign:

Why is it important?

The virus poses significant long-term effects on individual health.  More than 25 % of those with the disease do not completely recover even after six to eight months of initial infection. There is a range of new, returning, or ongoing health problems that individuals can suffer for four or more weeks after the initial infection by SARS-CoV-2, which are known as Long COVID-19 or Post COVID-19 symptoms. According to research, long-COVID symptoms represent a substantial disease burden expressed in impact on health-related quality of life due to the longer duration. However, these services are not easily accessible to people.

Another major impact of the COVID-19 has been on the mental health of the population, particularly on the school-going children.
There is a great need for the promotion of awareness related to Long COVID-19 symptoms among the people, and also the vulnerable group to receive essential mental health services.

Aim and the purpose of the Post and Long  COVID-19 awareness campaign:

We aim to reach a population of 5,000-10,000 people through various online platforms and social media campaigns and provide awareness to these people about the long COVID-19 symptoms.

Activities to be conducted are:

⦁    Podcasts and radio talks by Health experts.
⦁    Social media campaigns and conversations.
⦁    Webinar on the post and Long COVID-19 symptoms.
⦁    Print and distribute posters to raise awareness
⦁    On-ground conversations with resident welfare associations and other social groups.

2. Referral for Free mental health counseling and consultation in Delhi.

Why is it Important?

COVID-19 has not only affected the physical health of the people but also led to an increase in mental health issues in both the adult and children populations. Children are among the vulnerable population which got affected largely by the environment developed in this pandemic. Factors such as the closure of schools, isolation, deaths of close family members, financial crisis at home, no or negligible social interactions lead to poor mental health outcomes among children.
As schools open, it is an opportunity to initiate a conversation around this for children as well.

According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCBB) data, as many as 11,396 children died by suicide in 2020, which is an 18 percent rise from 9,613 such deaths in 2019 and a 21 percent rise from 9,413 in 2018.  Another government data suggests that an average of 31 children died by suicide every day in India in 2020 with experts underlining that the COVID-19 pandemic may have accentuated the psychological trauma faced by children to a great extent.

In India, children with mental health disorders are mostly undiagnosed and hesitant in seeking help or treatment. The COVID-19 and the resultant school closures and social isolation coupled with anxiety among elders have further aggravated the issue of mental health and brought it to the forefront.
The purpose of this campaign is to provide free referral and counseling to adults, adolescent children in New Delhi. This would help in screening the children for any mental health issues and also provide further consultations to those who need it most and cannot afford it.

Activities to be conducted are:
⦁    School engagement and talks with school children
⦁    Print and distribute posters to raise awareness
⦁    Collaboration with mental healthcare providers and facilitate free counseling and consultation sessions
