Have you ever imagined how it feels when the people you trust push you from high rise building or poison your long awaited meals? They have! THE STRAYS OF MEERUT.

Despite the Allahabad High Court directing the municipal corporation of Meerut to clear the city of stray cattle and dogs, few actions have been taken and cruelty to animals is increasing day-by-day. Because of this, lot of strays are being poisoned, thrown from heights or starved to death, resulting in cruelty to animals.

I, Pawni Singhal, a resident of Jawahar Quarters, Meerut got to know that the strays of my colony were being poisoned by people to get rid of them. That was the time when LetThePawRoar (non-registered organization) came into existence.

That was the time when I realised I have to help each and every animal possible and give them the lives they deserve. I have been rescuing and feeding animals from a tender age as it was a value inculcated in me by my mother since childhood. Be it my school, college or office, I always had a clan of strays who I used to feed and take care of. It was in 2019 that I decided to give it a name and make every individual a part of it starting from my own city, Meerut.
With LetThePawRoar, I plan to spay and neuter the strays in my city starting from my own colony as there have been horrific cases here resulting in death of pups because of overpopulation. Thus, I want to give the right solution to the society which can be beneficial for us as well as for these voiceless, innocent creatures.

Currently, I am feeding all the strays in my colony and building shelters to save them from severe cold and rain. Monthly expenditure of feeding & taking care of around 30 dogs comes to Rs. 8,000-10,000.

In my colony alone, there are 11 puppies and 20 dogs. In order to stop this ever-growing population of the animals on the streets, I, with the help of volunteers, want to run spaying & neutering drives before the heat comes.

The cost of spaying or neutering one dog alone is minimum Rs. 5,000 and goes upto Rs. 7,000. After this, there is post care as well where it is necessary to provide the animal with a high protein diet.  Thus, spaying & neutering 20 dogs alone will be a minimum cost of Rs. 100,000. And for the puppies, we need to get them vaccinated and dewormed.

It’s very necessary right now as three puppies died recently with causes unknown. In order to stop this brutality, we need to aware people and give them the right solution. We need to save & protect them.

We need to stop people from killing them and make them aware of how crucial the lives of strays are. We need this money as the surgical cost for spaying & neutering is quite high. We will have to set up camps for the vets and the team where the surgeries can be performed and shelters can be built for the operated animals. We are in need of this money as we can’t see any more animals dying on the streets. We need to change the current situation of our city, Meerut and remind people how precious these animals are.
