My name is Omkar Srinivas Jilla. I'm a 4th-year medical student pursuing MBBS from Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University, Ukraine. My father is a patient with a Chronic Kidney Disorder. He goes for dialysis three times a week. He was the only earning person in the family working as a security guard until he developed CKD. To pursue his and my dream of seeing me as a doctor, he sold his only house and sent me to Ukraine as in India due to the reservation system and poor availability of govt. seats it was difficult to get a seat, and private medical colleges were very expensive. Ukraine was economically affordable and was coming within our budget, plus my father was healthy at that time so it was a calculated risk. But one year after sending me to Ukraine, his health started deteriorating, and soon he developed kidney problems for which he was hospitalized. Also, not to mention, COVID pandemic struck the country with huge financial loss including our family. Due to all these factors, the money we got by selling the house was utilized for medical bills and to run the house during the COVID pandemic.

       And now there is a war between Russia and Ukraine which hiked up all the prices of goods/services in Ukraine. As you all know it may take years to resolve the conflict and recover the loss both economically as well as infrastructurally, and for the same reason I cannot go back to Ukraine for offline education as it is not safe plus, I cannot afford it economically.
       As a relief, NMC has allowed mobility programs under which the studies shall be conducted in other countries, the parent university being Ukrainian universities only. Our university IFNMU has tied up with Caucasus University, Georgia and Avicenna University, Kyrgyzstan for mobility. But we need to pay an extra 1500$ apart from the 4000$ which we are paying to our parent university IFNMU, per year. Apart from that, the hostel (1000$ per year) and the cost of living in Georgia/Kyrgyzstan altogether will be very expensive for me. Being a student from a lower middle-class background it is impossible to pay this much, especially in my current financial condition.

       To pay house rent, bills, and groceries, and to run the house, my mother stitches clothes, my younger brother does Swiggy delivery pursuing his own degree, and I teach students Biology to the 11th & 12th batch. I even used to bake cakes in Ukraine to earn a living. You can understand our financial conditions, earning a living amidst learning medicine is nearly an impossible challenge due to lack of time. In this state, it is impossible to go to Georgia and pay heftily for my education. But I have already completed my 3 years and invested lakhs of rupees, so I really don't want to quit in between. Even banks are not ready to give us loans without a mortgage, and we don't possess anything for that, neither any property nor any gold jewelry. It will not only drown my career but also shatter my entire family, not to mention all the time and money we have invested until now will also go in vain.

       I request you all to please help me complete my remaining 3 years by funding my university fee of 5500$ (4000 + 1500) and hostel fee (1000$) per year under the mobility program. Our course is for 6 years. I have just now completed my 3 years and entered 4th year. For the remaining 3 years of my course i.e., 4th, 5th, and 6th year the total cost of university fee + hostel will be 19,500 USD which makes it around 16 lakhs INR. I need to collect at least 6500 USD before October 25th for paying this year’s fee, the rest amount can be collected till the end of this year.
       This fundraising is the only hope I have, or else I have no other choice left but to quit my career here itself. I really don't want to quit coming halfway here this far. I hope you will understand the gravity of my situation and help me to complete my degree. Thanking you in anticipation.
