Navjyoti India Foundation (NIF) is a not for profit organization in the country working since 1987, well known worldwide for its commitment to work with marginalized sections of the society and to bring them attain dignified quality life.

It was registered as an organization in 1988 by the Magsaysay Award recipient Dr. Kiran Bedi and 15 other likeminded officials of Delhi Police, as a result of the inextricable link that existed between crime and drugs. Our strategy of crime prevention is based on the principle that the surest way to reduce crime is to focus on factors that put individuals at risk.

Over the last 33 years, we have been working relentlessly to bring about qualitative behavioural change and impact lives of the under-served in need in the urban slums of northwest Delhi and rural villages of Sohna, Gurgaon, Haryana. Our bottom-up approach of inclusive development and self-motivation has touched millions of lives and has moved us on to the path of sustainable development through our programs in Child Education, Women Empowerment, Skill Up-gradation for Youth, Community Development, and Environment.

Problem:

Coronavirus has affected millions of people globally. It has affected many and Navjyoti India Foundation is trying to step in and provide relief to some of these families who have faced the wrath of this calamity in the areas in which Navjyoti has been working in the past 33 years.

J.J Colony Bawana, Delhi:
The daily wage workers and the migrant labourers are the hardest hit and are struggling to meet their daily needs and essentials. Further running operations in the Bawana slum where we have been providing education to children of these labourers since 2004 has been difficult in these testing times.

Sohna Block, Gurugram:
Navjyoti has been working on Women Empowerment, Environment and Community Development in 70 villages of Sohna Block, Gurugram since 1998. Many bread earners from the communities have lost their jobs or are facing difficulties in these times.

Solution:

As the pandemic progresses exponentially, every casualty prevented shall help in curbing the COVID19 Invasion. So, while the medics take the frontline, let us strengthen our community by taking care of the vulnerable.

J.J Colony Bawana, Delhi:
We seek to provide essentials (ration kits) and prevention & safety kits to facilitate the remedial education programme in Bawana slums to help the Bawana slum labourers in these times to ensure the safety of them and shielding them from the economic impact of coronavirus. Due to travel restrictions many of these workers in the informal sector have lost their daily livelihood.

Sohna Block, Gurugram:
We will procure the masks for each hygiene kit from those made by the underprivileged women involved in our Project Unnati, so you will also be helping generate livelihood opportunities for them. We seek to help 2000 of our beneficiaries in Sohna Block, Gurugram for the coming days. We aim to help this community as well with providing essentials (ration kits) and prevention & safety kits.
