Beautiful garo women are on their way to become successful social entrepreneurs by producing and selling environment friendly leaf plates and bowls. The women formed self-help group called as Nangrima, which means 'Unite' in Garo language clearly says about their community bonding.
Under the guidance of Varsha (a SBI youth for India fellow), Nangrima SHG started producing plates & bowls with a semi-automatic machine. Since then, they have been greatly recognized and appreciated by Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society and local community.
However to see this venture as a sustainable livelihood with sufficient profit margin, Nangrima SHG needs financial support to purchase additional machinery. Therefore, they can produce more leaf plates and bowls. This would help them to see profit margin at early stage and put continuous effort for becoming a successful enterprise.
Nangrima SHG strongly believe in themselves and hence entered into this venture. By end of March 2020, Nangrima plans to purchase 4 manual areca leaf plate machines. As inquired with S. S. Engineering Works based in Coimbatore, one unit of manual areca leaf plate machine with special mould will cost 33,000 Rs . And a total of 4 units with various mould designs would cost around 1,20,000 Rs with various mould designs and hence reduce in total price.

In that attachment, we have the general quotation for 5 units with 'normal' moulds/dies. Upon request, SS Engineering Works will fabricate a special mould for Nangrima.
Hopefully by end of March 2020, Nangrima will procure and install at least 2 manual machines and ramp-up the production. Consequently, two more such machines will be installed depending on the supply and demand of the leaf plates.
