Hello!
My name is Namrata Bhattacharjee. I'm a 23-year-old filmmaker. Those of you who know me, know that I've been talking about making fiction films for probably as long as you've known me. I had been working as an Assistant Director for over a year, and last month, I took the plunge and quit my job to make my own film, 'Leftovers'.
I'm producing this film with my own money, and I'd kept aside a certain budget to make the film. However, through the pre-production of the film, it has become clear that my budget would not be enough even though, most of my crew comprises of my friends and professional contacts who are helping me out at a token amount or free of charge.
The film is being shot by my dear friend, Janhavi Asthana, an alumni of Prague Film School (https://www.janhavi.art/)
The role of the daughter is being played by the talented theatre and film actress Vara Raturi (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm10216310/)
I am yet to finalize the actress for the role of the mother, primarily because of the limited budget that I have.
The film is being made by calling in a lot of favours, but below is a breakdown of the expenses:
Location - 36,000 for 2 days including food in Alibaug
Travel to Location: 20,000 (estimate) for 3 cars for cast, crew, and equipment
Camera - 12,000 for 3 shifts (Sony FX9)
Lenses - 24,000 - 30,000 for 3 shifts (Anamorphic lens, Atlas or Hawk depending on availability)
Other equipment like Onboard Monitor, Focus Kit, Lights, Filters, Handheld Kit, and a Monitor will cost approximately 20,000 more.
Lens Attendant - 4,500 for 3 shifts
Sync Sound Equipment + Sound Recordist - 10,000
Sound Engineer - 10,000
Costume - 5,000
These are the confirmed expenses, excluding other miscellaneous production costs, crew fee, and the fee for the second actress.
I am not looking to raise the entire amount, just the amount that I don't have. Which is why I've set the goal at 1,50,000.
The goal is that the film is going to run in the film festival circuit for the next year. I'm aiming to submit it to festivals like Palm Springs International ShortFest, Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, Aspen Shortsfest, Tribeca Film Festival, Los Angeles Film Festival, Raindance, and Slamdance Film Festival to name a few.
Any support would mean the world to me, even sharing the fundraiser with someone, it would bring me closer to my dream. Because this is my debut short film, it's a lot harder for me to pull together the resources it takes to make a film. It helps a lot to know people, and as a beginner I have very limited contacts. If you can help me in other ways, not necessarily involving money, please reach out to me at +91 9811519179.
Making this film would also actualize a female-centric story made by women, which is something I'll always propagate for as a filmmaker. My name is Namrata Bhattacharjee. I'm a 23-year-old filmmaker.
