This funding request is for my mother (67 years), Mrs Marian M.A, who is in a critical state at the ICU in Prashanth Hospital-Velacherry (Chennai), due to post COVID-19 complications.
My mother was tested positive for COVID-19 on 21.05.2021. Within a few days, her symptoms became severe that we had to admit her at the hospital on 25.05.2021. She started her treatment for COVID-19 but after a few days she developed complications (Cytokine Storm) and was put on the ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit.
On 12th June, my mother’s oxygen levels dropped to 40 even on 100% ventilation. In addition, her blood pressure also dropped. The doctors tried to get her oxygen levels up…but did not succeed. They had to do an emergency intubation (invasive ventilation under sedation). Due to her age and her lungs not being able to accept such high oxygen levels, the lungs ruptured due to the pressure of the ventilator and air entered the chest cavity surrounding the lungs and heart – which is a risk to her life.
Over the last 24 days, the family has exhausted their savings due to the expensive treatment given. As on date, we have spent more than 11 lakhs (hospital & medicine expenses) since she is still in the COVID ICU. With the rising costs of the continued treatment we are not sure what would be our future bills.
At this time, the family requests extended family, friends and well-wishers to kindly contribute towards the continued treatment of my mother. Even a small contribution would make a difference.
