MISSION AAHAN VAAHAN - 10 FLIGHTS, IN 3 WEEKS TAKING 1800 MIGRANTS HOME
The National Law School of India University alumni (NLS Alumni) is overwhelmed by the support surrounding the success of India's first-ever privately funded air evacuation of stranded migrant workers in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, from Mumbai to Ranchi, on May 28, 2020.Before we could catch our breath, the second flight was sponsored by the Godrej Group, and we were able to transport another 190 migrants on the same route on May 31st. Amongst them were 10 infants, 5 of whom were less than 20 days old! For some women, it was their first journey alone!
All of them reached home with grace and dignity.
Huge populations of migrants are living on the fringe of starvation, often only on donated dry rations. Many are resorting to unsafe modes of transportation, or undertaking treacherous journeys on foot, in the searing heat, in desperation to get home. With the special trains overbooked and difficult to access, and bus tickets costing marginally less than airfare, we intend to continue to fly them home as part of Mission Aahan Vaahan, the vehicle of dawn.
We want to reach as many migrants as we can, as soon as we can.
If you have been moved by the plight of our migrant workers, you can help with Mission Aahan Vahaan – 10 flights in 3 weeks to get 1800 migrants home. We need to raise Rs. 99 lacs in total to complete our mission.
