Every time you fall sick, you visit a doctor and take medicine to recover. And the same goes for your pet too. But what about street animals who don't have anyone to be looked after? What happens to these animals if they are not given timely help? Injured and sick animals instinctively hide away to prevent getting attacked in their most vulnerable state. Many animals suffer a long, painful death due to lack of food, water, and medical care.

Minu is a passionate animal lover who has dedicated her life to feeding and looking after street animals. Today, she feeds and takes care of close to 2,000 street animals (see Minu’s homepage @ https://stray-doggies.webnode.com/ for her work, photos, videos, testimonials from reputed people, media coverage, etc) in the South Bengaluru area. Her phone number is even used by locals as a hotline to inform her when a streetie goes missing or upon finding an injured or sick animal!

Minu also works with slum children, having taught various subjects at Samridhdhi Trust - an NGO that provides education for lower-income families, inviting children home and introducing them to animals (while the kids enjoy treats and small gifts!). Over time, she inculcated a sense of kindness and empathy in these children towards all street animals.

During the COVID lockdowns, Minu also organized food drives to provide rations to slum-dwellers, many of whom had lost their daily wage earnings.

Minu started caring for about 25-30 street animals 15 years ago, and this number has steadily increased over the years. Today, Minu is feeding close to 2,000 street animals daily. Besides her daughter - Mishti, Minu is the proud mother of seven street dogs who live in her small home, four of whom are paralyzed.

Testimonials

1. Dr. Ansar Kamran, Professor, Hebbal Vet College, and Vet @My Pets Choice.
“I take great pleasure in writing a few lines about Minu Singh, who is known to me for more than a decade. She is an enthusiastic person involved full-time in the rescue, treatment, care, and rehabilitation of stray, injured, sick, and destitute animals to whom at times nothing short of human intervention would work to relieve their unfathomable pain and agony.”

5. Anurag Verma, former of icer @AWBI (Animal Welfare Board of India).
“I have known Minu for over a decade now. She continues to do what she was doing then, just on a larger scale! I don't know any other individual in Bengaluru who is feeding this large number of dogs on a personal basis without being involved with an NGO. She also goes out of her way to rescue any stray animal, be it a dog, cat, or bull - she doesn't differentiate between stray animals”.
6. Dr. Erach Bharucha, Director, BVIEER, Pune
“Minu has continued from her Master's days to make great contributions to the scientific and humane behaviour of urban animals, with who we share our environment. She currently supports, feeds, and looks after the well-being of these speechless animals. I hope she continues this ef ort and encourages people from all walks of life to replicate what she has done in her life. Knowing her deep commitment to this great humanitarian cause, I am sure she will pursue this with even more zeal. I greatly appreciate her interest and active duty towards the animals she treasures”.

It’s your chance to heal and save lives!
Bengaluru is home to a huge dog and stray animal population - prone to diseases, accidents, hunger, and sometimes cruelty by humans. This campaign aims to help Minu continue her work tirelessly for the next full year, and ensure that her large stray animal family lives the best possible life. However, the scale of this operation is overwhelming for a young woman working alone without the support of an NGO or a major philanthropist.
Every day, Minu worries about how long her funds for that month will last and where she can get the next day's rice at the cheapest possible price; all this instead of being able to just focus on her primary objective of helping animals in distress. Minu is partly funded with contributions from a few friends and well-wishers. Yet, anywhere between 40% to 50% of the total expenses are being taken care of by her personally, and it has taken a huge toll on her family’s resources.

Minu will post updates every week during the campaign, and follow up with monthly updates throughout the year on her website via photos, videos, and blogs. Please drop in any day for a visit to see her work for yourself, and the impact it makes on local animal and human communities (Minu’s contact details can be found @ https://stray-doggies.webnode.page/contact/)
