At Kक्षा, we leverage the power of stories through novels to create aware and expressive individuals who are eager to learn.
A year ago, our founding team was placed in low-income government schools as part of the Teach for India fellowship program. A major pain point for all of us was that the curriculum did not offer students the opportunity to grow holistically. Students did not love learning or reading and the element of fun was missing from the classroom. We brainstormed and realised novels were a good way to solve this problem as they have depth, can be taught in a holistic manner and are fun. We tested this theory by exploring the novel ‘The Little Prince’ with a group of students. At the end of the novel, students had imbibed the values, showed improvement in reading comprehension levels and fell in love with books and learning. Moving forward, these students read novels by themselves!
To do this, we need your help! Kक्षा began as a project that we worked on in our free time, but now it’s time to turn that project into an organisation so we can expand our reach and help many more students develop holistically using novels as a medium. The need for change is dire and we need your help to procure and create the resources required to enable that change.
Funds will be used towards teacher training, creating content for our novel-based curriculum and providing students with different books.
A small contribution on your part can go a long way in ensuring holistic development in classrooms! Please do contribute as much as you can, Team Kक्षा will be forever grateful!
