    This fundraiser will benefit

    Khushi Yogi

    from Sola Ahmedabad

Khushi is Ramesh’s second daughter but she is his favourite. She used to wait for him to come home from work and then put her to sleep as he told stories of her favourite courageous princess who can defeat every monster single-handedly. Khushi always told her father that she wants to grow up to be that princess who needs no one to help her with dangers. Now when she is diagnosed with blood cancer, she keeps assuring her father that she will fight the disease back like the princess - “Papa, don’t worry I will be fine soon, I know I can beat this monster that is in my body.” Teary-eyed Ramesh can only nod in reply to his daughter’s innocent talks.

Only two months ago, little Khushi’s life was brought to a standstill by deadly cancer

Just two months ago, Ramesh and his wife, Kamla were shocked to know that their 6-year-old daughter has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. It is a form of cancer that affects the white blood cells - it occurs in the bone marrow and can quickly spread to the blood.

“It was just another normal day for us when we saw that Khushi was running a very high temperature. As hours passed by, she started having severe breathing problems and we didn’t think it was wise to keep her at home. While in the hospital, the doctors made several tests and soon we were told that Khushi has cancer. I couldn’t believe my ears - she was fine just few days ago, how could she have something as grave as cancer all of a sudden,” - Ramesh, father.

Birthday this year was different for Khushi as she was shuffling between the hospital and home for her chemotherapy

Cancer has left Khushi weak and tired. She can’t get up on her own and therefore, hasn’t been able to go to school for the last two months now. She misses going to school and playing with her friends.

An old photo of Khushi with her father

“On November 11, we celebrated her birthday. With the news of her cancer and her health deteriorating so fast, we had thought she won’t be able to celebrate her birthday this year. We had to take her to the hospital often for her chemotherapy and she would be very tired after those sessions.  But she was insistent and so we had small party at home. As I saw her play about in her new dress, I prayed to God that she recovers soon and lives a healthy life.”

Ramesh has already spent a lot and is in no condition to arrange for more to continue Khushi’s treatment

Ramesh works in a factory and earns a meagre salary. He lives with his old father, his wife and three daughters. He is the only earning member of the family and has already spent Rs 3 lakhs for Khushi’s treatment. Now all his savings are over and without help, he won’t be able to arrange for Rs 4 lakhs that he now needs for Khushi’s chemotherapy sessions and medicines.
