Do you ever stop to consider how easily we take life for granted? We're bombarded with distressing news stories, but somehow, they always feel detached from our own reality. We carry on with our lives, seemingly unaffected by the hardships faced by others.

Until one day it happens.

Kalyan Chakravarty, aged 42, led a contented life with his wife Ramya and their daughter Akshaya (12). However, in February 2024, his routine was disrupted by persistent fevers ranging from 101 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit every evening. Despite numerous attempts with medication, the temperatures remained stubbornly high. After undergoing several blood tests from various doctors, one physician suggested a bone marrow biopsy. It was during this distressing period that Kalyan received the devastating news: he was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer known as Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), an even rarer occurrence for someone of his age.

Despite receiving this harrowing diagnosis, Kalyan remained remarkably resolute in his determination to combat the illness. He embraced a positive outlook and committed to receiving the necessary care to ensure he could continue being there for his family for as long as possible. While grappling with the gravity of the situation, there was a glimmer of hope as the medical prognosis hinted at a potential lifespan of 8 to 10 years, according to the doctors' assessments.

Doctors have started him on medication, but unfortunately, it swiftly led to a decline in his health. Upon assessment, his platelet count had plummeted to less than 15,000, accompanied by internal bleeding in his head. Consequently, he has been admitted to the ICU, where medical professionals are diligently working to elevate his platelet count and address the blood clot. The medical team is now recommending surgery to remove the clots and bone marrow transplantation, which poses a significant financial burden for Kalyan's family.
