Introduction

EarthAngels Welfare Foundation is a Mumbai based NGO, passionately dedicated to the sole mission of “Sharing Joy” amongst the disadvantaged and vulnerable section of society in Rural India through its various projects and community led initiatives.

Concern

Can you imagine life without electricity? In today’s day and age, it seems impossible right? But many people in Rural India have never seen an electric bulb leave alone benefited from its many uses. There are some villages, where meters are installed a year ago however have not been connected to meter grid. Also, many villages who are already electrified, can't afford the bills because of poverty.

It is an appalling fact that just 4 – 5 hours away from India’s Financial capital Mumbai, this particular village “Veta” in Shahapur district has no electricity yet. As a result, the days end early as soon as the sun goes down. Women get inside the house fearing safety, children cannot study or play in the dark, and men get engaged in non-productive activities thereby increasing anti-social activities like alcoholism, thefts, fights, etc.

Solution

Now life no longer comes to an end in village “ Veta” after dark thanks to solar-powered lanterns & streetlights.

While studying, playing and cooking after sunset was once a struggle using inefficient kerosene or paraffin lamps leading to substantial health & environmental hazards, the solar lantern now provides a cheap and practical source of light. Working teenage girls can now come home safely post sundown. Women work more productively to support the family. The ladies of the village now gather for small social gatherings post sunset. It’s all so lively now! And it’s all thanks to solar lights within the house and solar street lights outside. For now, people of village “Veta” are happy to enjoy a new kind of freedom created by light.

Appeal

A new year means new opportunities, and we are hoping this year 2023 gives rise to some much-needed stability and progress to Rural India. There are many more villages, let’s take one step at a time & illuminate more lives by providing solar lamps & installing solar streetlights.

We aim to provide 10,000 households with solar lamps &100 villages with solar streetlights in the year 2023.
