It was the month of June, 2018 when I had taken a break from my PhD work and was invited by my cousin to a seminar on Plastic Pollution. Midway Journey is the brain child that happened as a result of my research for this seminar. During my research, I came across the pitiful scenario of my city which required urgent action. I saw a video that showed how birds in an unmanned island named Midway are dying by consuming plastic. It was difficult to see and read about how plastic was destroying wildlife, water bodies, aquatic species and even lands. This is when I left my studies to start a citizen's initiative named The Midway Journey.
The menace created by plastics and waste in the city over the years has taken a humongous shape. We at Midway Journey plan to bring in a little change in the scenario. We plan to engage with the riverbank communities to bring in solutions to the waste accumulating in the river banks. We seek to impart training within communities regarding waste reduction, waste segregation, recycling, composting and creation of zero waste wards in Guwahati. We have been working towards waste management for the last two years and it wasn't hard to derive a conclusion that the citizens don't pay much heed to waste management or environmental degradation.
We seek to bring in awareness and spread consciousness among the people regarding their poor management of wastes and plastics to paint a picture of how their actions are causing the ecosystem to suffer.
We at Midway Journey place emphasis on waste management and reduction. Our endeavours are focused towards a sustainable future and environmental protection.
We plan to create a music video for the purpose, for music has always been the element to strike the right cords in people. This is a humble request and call for you to come together for the environment and contribute so that we are able to pay the artists who would be making it. Please help us spread the message and connect to a larger audience.
