Thank you for taking an interest in the work we are doing at Human Touch Foundation. As an NGO that has been in the forefront of pediatric HIV/AIDS over the last 10 years in Goa, we have witnessed how life expectancy among children has increased through the availability of antiretroviral medications, and how today’s adolescents and youth are adapting to HIV as a manageable chronic illness.

Adolescents living with HIV face unique challenges when it comes to accepting and treating their diseases. Many adolescents are in denial, afraid, misinformed or lack familial or social support. 

Our youth-centered HIV programs have been a part of a lifelong continuum of care that transitions clients from pediatric to youth and from youth to adult services in a seamless care continuum. In order for youth to be successful, they need the organization’s support in the form of consistent, structured activities, services and programs that deepen their sense of self-knowledge and commitment to life throughout the entire process. At Sunburst Camp, life skills that address the critical issues on medication adherence, HIV/AIDS disclosure, and sex education and prevention and risk behaviours are taught. Besides this, we teach independent living skills, such as interviewing for and maintaining employment, being of service to the community, and understanding that financial responsibilities are a necessary part of their personal growth and development at this stage of life.
