Hima is 25 years old happy go individual, who flew to Ireland in September 2017 to pursue Masters in Engineering. On successful completion and internship at Electronic firm, she started working in Supply Chain Operations for a Healthcare firm as she always dreamt.
Everything was going well until March 10, 2020. Due to fever and sore throat, she got into St. James hospital Dublin emergency ward where she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in its most aggressive state with complex karyotype and had to start chemotherapy immediately.
The first IDA chemo results were not favorable and the doctor said her leukemia is very aggressive and the first cycle of chemo didn't make any difference. She didn't lose hope and had faith.
She went through a rigorous and painful second cycle of Flag - IDA chemotherapy which is almost 20 times stronger than the first cycle of chemotherapy. Unfortunately, the second cycle of chemo also didn't work and the doctors advised traveling back to family and continue with further treatment to be the best option.
After 2 months of chemotherapy and hospital stay being Neutropenic she miraculously landed in India during the second week of May amidst COVID travel restrictions. Being positive and happy to be around family she started her treatment.
The doctors in India suggested immediate Bone marrow transplant (BMT) as the only option for survival. With a lot of hopes, her family agreed for BMT. On June 18th she had a transplant, her brother being the bone marrow donor. She was happy after successful engraftment and was looking to move forward in life since the initial bone marrow biopsy showed the donor cells started producing healthy cells.
The BMT treatment costed her family more than INR 30,00,000 where they ended up using all their savings. Post BMT she was tested positive for Covid-19 due to her immunocompromised condition leading to pneumonia. She is currently in ICU and recieving treatment for pneumonia.
Through this campaign, we are trying to support Hima as much as we can. The funds raised from this campaign will be withdrawn to her brother's account.
We sincerely thank each and everyone for all your prayers and support.
