It's been 5 years since I have been supporting Gowri. She is a topper and studying 2nd year of MSc in Zoology.
A sincere request to support her in college and hostel fees this year.
Her story many of you would know, but I am resharing for the new donors.
Srinivas, I met him a year back in his small petty shop. I knew the local NGO had worked with him during his rehabilitation. It was in 2002 that he had his spinal cord injury. He was crossing the railway track and fainted on the track. After that, he only remembers waking up in hospital with nonfunctional legs. He was bedridden. He had the support of his wife and a little daughter. Unfortunately in 2005, his wife left him to choose another life, she was no longer there to take care of him. The little one was just 3 and half years old then.2007 he was almost dead with wounds and bed sores. That’s when NGO found him for rehab. He recalls " My daughter did everything to me. From cleaning to cooking, she is the only one I had " From then till today he struggles to earn his livelihood. The small shop he has is not there anymore, because the owner doesn't allow him to have one. He stays in a small hut in a school ground. After years of struggle government has sanctioned a small piece of land where he wants to build a small hut for living. He has no family except her daughter !!
She was in first year degree when I met her. When I asked to meet her first, she did not turn up Srinivas says " She has lost hope on people madam. People come ask story and leave. She has posed for many pictures and seen me cry internally ". 5 years back I went and met Gowri after which I found her opening up and asked me if I can sponsor for her first-year education which cost 30K. I am thankful to the beautiful souls on this earth who came forward to help her. And then in her second year. Gowri dropped me a text and said " Akka can you please help me this year also ? I want to study ".
Again it was Milaap and donors who supported her with funds. I had been in constant touch with her throughout mentoring her. One day she called me one-day early morning " Akka, I scored 76%and completed my BSc. I want to study more, can you help me? " I asked her " What do you want to do? "She said "Akka, you know, I love zoology planning to do MSc in Zoology. Fees for college is costing Rs.35,000 and Hostel and her personal costs are Rs.5000/month."
She has completed her first year MSc in zoology and now in 2nd year.
I am sincerely requesting all of you to support Gowri to reach her goal.
I believe in “ If we educate a girl, we educate a family (by implication, a NATION) “
Let's not stop Gowri from reaching her goal. You remember we had promised Srinivas once that we all will be his family!
