Studies have shown that a mere library-like atmosphere can unlock the reading habits within young minds. I am Rishita Acharya, a teacher, currently working with students of a low-income school in Kadugodi, Bangalore. My students do not have a library in their school. A library will be a portal for them to understand different parts of the world, people, and perspectives. I strongly believe magic can happen when a kid dips their mind into a good book. The headmistress of the school has given us a room. It needs to be painted and cleaned. We (my kids and I) will take out time every week to paint walls with our art and clean it. We will have one cupboard and some shelves fixed. We plan to use this space to run our book club - BURP - Buckle Up and Read for Pleasure.
