💔 Urgent Fundraiser Appeal for Mr. Sumit Kumar (Age 26) – Fighting a Life-Threatening Neurological Disorder

What began as a promising chapter in his life has suddenly taken a devastating turn due to an unexpected and severe medical emergency.

🏥 Sudden Health Crisis
On a routine day at work, Sumit experienced sudden numbness in his body. Alarmed, his colleagues rushed him to Billroth Hospital, Shenoy Nagar, where doctors recommended immediate and prolonged treatment. Unfortunately, due to financial limitations, Sumit had to be transferred to Omandurar Government Hospital for further care.

In the days that followed, his condition rapidly deteriorated—he developed facial numbness and a high-grade fever, raising serious concerns of neurological paralysis. On March 29, 2025, he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Apollo Hospital, Chennai, under emergency conditions.

🧠 Diagnosis
After a comprehensive series of tests and neurological evaluations, Sumit was diagnosed with:
Longitudinally Extensive Transverse Myelitis (LETM) NMO (Neuromyelitis Optica) Spectrum Disorder vs. MOG-Antibody Disease
These are rare and severe autoimmune conditions that cause inflammation of the spinal cord and optic nerves, often leading to paralysis, vision loss, or respiratory failure.

💉 Current Treatment & Condition
Due to the severity of his condition, doctors initially prescribed Immunoglobulin therapy. However, his health worsened rapidly, necessitating Plasma Exchange Therapy (PLEX)—a critical and high-cost treatment typically reserved for the most acute cases. Four rounds of plasma therapy have already been completed.
As of now, Sumit remains in the ICU on a ventilator, battling severe respiratory complications and fighting for his life.
