The Sundarban is home to over 100 Bengal tigers, one of the largest single populations of tigers in the world. The presence of tigers and diverse flora and fauna attract tourists and researchers from all over the world.
However, tigers are a significant threat to the local villagers, who depend on the forest for fishing or honey collecting. In the last two years, 60 families lost their primary bread earner because of tiger attacks. Therefore, the Prantik Sundarban Welfare association has decided to stand with the family members of the victims by providing an alternate source of earning.
This Durga Pujo, the team will provide one goat to each of the 60 families. One goat can give birth to upto six kids in a year. Which can then be sold. Thus increasing the income.
The team also plans to provide ₹500 every month to the family. This cash will help the families in providing proper nourishment to the goat. We have Veterinarians in our team who will be guiding the recipients.
In addition to that, we will also provide financial education to the members of these families to ensure that they can set up their own small businesses and use the fund effectively.
Fund required:
Total number of families: 60
Cost of each goat: 5000
Total : 60 x 5,000 = 3,00,000
Cash benefit: 500/month
Duration : 1 year = 12 months
Total : 500 x 12 x 60 = 3,60,000
Total cost for 1 year : 6,60,000
