My name is Yamuna from Moksha Animal Aid and I am writing on behalf of our friend Dhanasekar who runs a dog shelter in Velankanni on his own. He has been working tirelessly for over 10 years providing shelter for stray and injured dogs in an area where even the government encourages stray killings. He is often insulted and threatened by neighbors and has zero support from higher authorities. A recent incident has left him struggling to look after close to one hundred dogs on his property and so, we seek your help.

If you follow our Facebook page (Moksha Animal Aid), you would have seen that a couple of weeks ago, locals came and attacked Dhanasekar and murdered several puppies in an attempt to threaten him into shutting down the shelter as the public perceive it as a "nuisance". They also claim that his dogs were responsible for attacking their goats and so they stole a scooter (his only means of transport) and Rs 30,000 from his home as "compensation". A case was filed with the local police who showed very little sympathy to Dhanasekar and sided with the criminals with no further action taken. So far, we could only retrieve the scooter but the money is still missing. This has left a huge blow to Dhanasekar financially as he is now sacrificing his own meals for the family in order to provide for the dogs.
Dhanasekar has always been humble and doesn't easily accept donations as he doesn't want to bother others but this time he is desperate. Ideally small monthly donations from several donors would be enough to sustain the shelter but at this moment, we urgently require Rs.14,000 to stock up on food and medications. Several of the dogs have paralysis and other conditions like mange which require management. There are also several females who need to be spayed urgently before they reproduce.

Dhanasekar is worried that they may not get the right attention in time without these funds. We kindly request you to please donate in any way possible. Any amount of contribution will be helpful to get him back on his feet. If you are in the Velankanni area, we would also love for you to visit the shelter to see the animals.
