Hundreds of children from marginalized communities are given to their mothers at the time of birth (i.e. death after birth), that is, if their mother dies after birth, then after a few days the father also passes away. Due to which their life becomes hellish. The initial years of their life are very difficult. They decide to survive in life on their own, there is no one to nurture them and they separate themselves from laying the foundation of their education and overall development with care. Most of the time, antisocial tendencies develop in children and they take the form of occupation and later on they start doing many antisocial activities. They thrive in inhumanly painful lives.
During the early years children develop the cognitive, physical, social and emotional skills needed to succeed in life. These early experiences are largely determined by proper nutrition, health care, and learning opportunities. Early childhood education (ECE) and nutrition have a positive impact on the attendance, retention and learning of children in primary and higher education.
Solutions – What We Do
Dalit Vikas Abhiyan Samiti (DVAS) aims to make those children, whose father or mother dies after birth, free from malnutrition and connect them with education by running nutrition cum education centers for overall development and to connect them with the mainstream of the society and to help them in further development. Works towards addressing the issue of malnutrition and stunting among destitute children in the age group of 3-14 years (ECE as well as inclusive education practices) and promoting education. Dalit Vikas Abhiyan Samiti (DVAS) has established 100 nutrition-cum-education centres at community places in 10 districts of Bihar, in which 1000 needy children are educated. Attainment of sustainable development affecting physical development, mental health development and physical well-being is achieved at the centres. To promote daily nutrition and education among children.
Children of Nutrition-cum-Education Center get involved in the early childhood education processes joyfully and playfully. Through inclusive education practices, children at primary education level develop a sense of confidence to attend schools on a regular basis. Educational inputs are provided from. Regular health check-ups and assessment of educational progress are conducted to track improvement in physical development and learning levels.
The nutrition and education program has had a positive impact in helping children achieve age-appropriate physical and cognitive development and increasing participation in daily activities and sports, which also results in increased learning levels. After the center, they are added to the primary schools by enrolling them. Also, preparation is done for these children for admission from high secondary to board and other schools, so that these destitute children can get admission in good schools like Navodaya, Sainik School, Kendriya School, Can get good education in schools run by Welfare, Kasturba School, Netrahat School etc.
What we want to achieve
Dalit Vikas Abhiyan Samiti (DVAS) is demanding from the community to provide relief to these marginalized children from malnutrition and cognitive development. Therefore, by expanding the nutrition-cum-education program in 20 villages of Samastipur, Vaishali district including Patna urban homeless, I want to provide service to 1000 such destitute homeless children in establishing a just life for them, so that they can get respectable education.
